It really is difficult to explain the cocktail or excitement and fear that launching a new book brings you. I guess it is akin to slowly ascending up to the top of a rollercoaster, knowing full well the drop on the other side is not only going to be thrilling, it will also scare the bejesus out of you! But it is a fear/joy I want to face head on as I am thrilled to once again announce that The Absent Man will be published on 9th March 2018.
For those of you who have followed with varying levels of interest, I had originally signed a second contract with my previous publisher for this book. But after several months of unhappiness, I requested to void the contract which was accepted. One of the biggest reasons, apart from the disappointing input on Doorways, was that it was originally scheduled for October 2018, a full two years after Doorways. I like to think of myself as patient, but that was too long.
I am really excited for this book to launch. I personally think it is much better than DOORWAYS, the first Bermuda Jones Casefile and we return to the aforementioned agent and his enigmatic partner, Argyle. This time, they are sent to Glasgow, to hunt for a mysterious man who is ripping the hearts from the chests of his victims. As the death toll rises, so does the pressure from an angry Glaswegian Detective and the increasing presence of something else lurking in the shadows!
Does that tempt you at all? Well I have a small circle of Beta Readers (my brain trust) who read through the book before Christmas. The response was very positive, with them unanimously agreeing it was a better read than Doorways and the character development of both Bermuda and Argyle was the driving force of the book! Even my editor told me that she finds these casefiles really fun to read and thought this book was a blast!
So yeah, less than a month to go. The DOORWAYS relaunch was a moderate success and set out to do what I intended! (hey, not all of us can go best seller straight away!!) But now this feels like a real launch, where I have a full blog tour to come (You guys rules), a solid advertising plan and most importantly, more than one book in the series. It’s so exciting, and whilst there is that little bit of fear as with every book release, that excitement is making me wish it was the 9th March already!!
So note it in your diary and clear your schedule that weekend! And for those of you who read and enjoyed Doorways, in The Absent Man, I have made it my mission to make Argyle even more of a bad ass!!
The Absent Man is released on 9th March 2018.
